Next week, three dozen robot cars bristling with lasers, radars, and antennas compete in Darpa’s Urban Challenge race. If all goes as planned, it’ll be as orderly as a procession of golf carts in downtown Sun City. But it could just as easily turn into a robot smash-up derby.
