The twice-yearly whirlwind, otherwise known as Fashion Week, swept through New York this past week and blew out of town yesterday. Now I find myself wondering, what happened? Good thing we have our friends at Refinery 29. With an eye for the independents, they scoured the runways all week for the latest and greatest, some of which might be unfamiliar if you’re not a hardcore fashion follower.
One of my favorites from the week has to be the Obedient Sons (above). Though they titled their newest collection “The Kingstown Mutiny,” designers Swaim and Christina Hutson continued to push their way further toward mainstream marketability and away from their politically charged roots. A lot of straight-cut twill shorts, flattering sweatpants, gray club jackets with sharp shoulders, and cream sleeveless cardigans worked well on the men, but even better when re-proportioned for the girls.
